Overview

Tricare has a Sub office located at the Corner Centenary and East Boundary Street, California, Point Lisas which is conveniently located approximately ten (10) minutes’ drive from the Point Lisas Industrial Estate. It comprises of two (2) Doctors’ offices, a Reception area and adequate parking. The electricity supply and the water supply are consistently reliable. The office is outfitted with clean and well maintained staff and patient washrooms.

Our Sub Office has the same Medical Service Capabilities as Tricare’s main office excluding Xrays/Ultrasounds and Full Laboratory services.

Men’s health is supervised by our senior urologist Dr Hassan Khan who is aided by Dr. Mohammed. This service focuses on issues affecting men’s health and wellness. This team functions both privately and at public institutions to achieve implementation of policies aimed at improving the quality of life and health of the male population. Such measures would have included, implementation of multiparametric cognitive fusion prostate biopsies, minimally invasive surgeries and decreased patient waiting times for elective procedures. Aiming to promote a new concept in men’s health, men’s health matters.

This area is lead by Dr. Shamera Maharaj our consultant internist and neurologist. She boasts dual specialization in internal medicine from the UWI and Royal College of Physicians. Lifestyle disease management is paramount in our population due to its increasing prevalence and deleterious effects. Guided by their expertise we will identify; risk stratify and optimize patient care to prevent disease progression and increased associated costs of care.

Led by Dr. Tricia Jailal who operates primarily in the private sector and Dr. Sarah McCartney who is based at the pediatric emergency department at EWMSC. This unique pair complements the practice of the other as Dr McCartney focuses on acute/urgent management of paediatric issues whilst long term follow up is done by Dr Jailal. Having this level of expertise in the management of both acute and chronic issues related to child health is once again part of our holistic approach in providing peace of mind to our clients.

Our team is led by the competent Dr. Wayne Quinland who boasts years of experience at the National Radiotherapy Centre treating Gynaecological cancers via open and minimally invasive techniques. Dr. Quinland is assisted by Dr. S. Hosein and this compassionate pair provides the perfect combination for dealing with complex female issues. From diagnosis to definitive management, it would be hard pressed to find a more efficient, caring and profession team of gynaecologists able to execute and manage complex disease.

Burns
Burns

Burns are a common injury sustained on the worksite in the industry. Having a team which understands the complexity of burns and burn management is of paramount importance. The proper management of chemical, thermal and electrical burns can be the difference between a full recovery and long-term morbidity. Dr. Gill is a registrar at POSGH plastic surgery and burns unit. He is aptly qualified being a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and boasts a master’s degree in Burns management.

Psychiatry and mental health clinics form an integral part of a holistic medical practice. Mental issues are not treated with the same urgency and care that they ought to be, this is not the case for our practice. Leading the charge on this issue is Dr. Neemal Gokool. Dr. Gokool’s experience stems from his years of private practice in the field coupled with his work with the Trinidad and Tobago Medical association. He stands ready and capable to address mental health needs of your workforce and is leading the way through his work in highlighting the impact of mental health and bringing them to the forefront.

Trauma and Orthopaedics
Trauma and Orthopaedics is headed by Dr. Vijai Mahabir. In the industry, having a specialist who is trained in dealing with acute issues such as onsite accidents and chronic orthopaedic issues is paramount. Dr. Mahabir is a senior medical officer at the SFGH and provides the expertise to deal with common issues encountered on the jobsite. Effectively managing these issues will lead to decreased downtime and long-term morbidity with improved recovery rates. Ultimately this translates into less likelihood of long-term complications and compensation due to litigation.
General Surgical Clinics

Led by Dr. Adedapo who practices both privately in the field of general and vascular surgery and at POSGH in the capacity of Registrar. Dr. Adedapo has assisted in the training of a multitude of junior surgical officers and his clinical competency in an operating room is seldom matched. Minimally invasive and open surgical techniques coupled with cutting edge endovascular surgical techniques form the repertoire of his surgical armament. Notwithstanding the elective cases, he is readily equipped to deal with complex surgical trauma cases as is evidenced by surgical logs at the POSGH.

Our G.P. service is led by Dr. Sharaz Mohammed, our Chief Medical Officer, who boasts 7 years of Private General Practice experience. Initially his practice was a community-based service which met the needs of his community, this has since grown into the vibrant practice which serves the needs of a wider socioeconomic cohort. Currently a Registrar at P.O.S.G.H. and Vice President of the NWRHA Doctor’s
Association, Dr. Mohammed brings clinical competence coupled with leadership. Assisted primarily by his practice assistant Dr. Ochalal and a cohort of multi-gender and multi-ethnic G.P. support staff, our clinic is prepped to receive urgent and elective visits in an atmosphere geared at patient comfort and convenience. A patient focused medical practice is the hallmark of this service and continued medical education enables implementation of evidenced based practice.
